Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant will assist in month-end closings, prepare journal entries, and general ledger reconciliations.

The Senior Accountant will assist in month-end closings, prepare journal entries, and general ledger reconciliations. The ideal candidate will have a mix of public and private experience in accountancy. Additionally, this person will have experience in automating process with sufficient controls to aid in reducing the closing times and other significant accounting processes.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare journal entries in our accounting system, Sage Intacct, and monthly balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
  • Participate in month-end, quarter-end and year-end closings and general ledger account analysis
  • Knowledge of required disclosures and reporting for private company investors
  • Process payroll through third-party provider, including verifying finished product
  • Maintain records for vacation accruals, bonuses, and commissions
  • Prepare treasury and cash journal entries & cash projection
  • Manage credit cards, accruals, and/or purchase orders (POs) accounts
  • Maintain cost of goods sold (COGS) account for subcontractors, internal/external laboratories
  • Assist in year-end audits and supporting tax filings as required
  • Assist in internal control governance
  • Perform other finance and accounting functions as needed

Depending upon the needs of the Finance team, the Senior Accountant may also perform one or more of the following functions:

  • Oversee Accounts Payable, including vendor management and reconciliations
  • Conduct expense management
  • Manage Accounts Receivable and collections
  • Prepare revenue recognition workpaper
  • Manage customer contracts

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of accounting experience
  • Minimum 1 year of payroll experience
  • In-depth understanding of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Basic understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Advanced MS Excel skills
  • Highly detail-oriented and organized
  • Ability to meet a constant stream of deadlines
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with different levels of employees

Preferred Education and Experience

  • 2 -3 years of public accounting experience
  • Basic knowledge of some complex accounting issues such as: purchase accounting, accounting for leases and stock based compensation
  • Experience with Sage Intacct accounting software
  • Experience in contract analysis for revenue recognition and working with ASC 606/IFRS 15
